What Is An Alternative Cancer Treatment?

By : Jonathan Bell

Significant reassessment in recent years a of the nature and causes of cancer has taken place. Cancer was formerly believed to be a localized disease, characterized by a lesion, usually in the form of a growth, which appeared at some specific part of the body. This localized lesion was thought to be the result of an activity produced by an invading virus, carcinogenic agent, or some form of trauma.

Today, the conviction among researchers and physicians, which is a growing conviction is that cancer is a complex disease that is the end result of a disturbed metabolism (body chemistry).

It is an insidious disease that involves the entire body. The frequent reoccurrence of a malignancy after treatment with the conventional methods of surgery, radiation and/or chemotherapy is because the basic underlying metabolic cause of the cancer is rarely considered and consequently remains uncorrected.

Amygdalin, or laetrile/B17, is a relatively simple compound found in much of our food supply. It is most abundant in the seeds of non-citrus fruits. Most commercially prepared amygdalin is extracted from the seeds of the apricot.

Amygdalin is composed of:

Two molecules of glucose (a sugar), One molecule of hydrocyanic acid (an anti-neoplastic compound),ane One molecule of benzaldehyde (an analgesic).

In metabolic therapy, the amygdalin is broken down into its component parts as a result of the action of the betaglucidase. This enzyme is found in abundance in cancer cells, and is relatively deficient in normal cells.

Consequently, the cyanide is released only where there is an active cancer lesion. This liberation of cyanide under controlled and safe conditions insures that an adequate dosage can be administered without the threat of toxic side effects.

This absence of cyanide toxicity is further insured by the action of the thodanese, another enzyme. This enzyme is present in large quantities in normal cells but in very small amounts in cancer cells.

Detoxification of cyanide occurs, therefore, in normal mammalian tissue through the action of this rhodanese which, in the presence of sulfer-bearing compounds, converts free cyanide to thiocyanate, a perfectly nontoxic compound. The thiocynate is excreted in the urine.

Slow drip infusion. The most efficacious mode of administration is through the slow-drip infusion technique which was developed in Tijuana, Mexico. It became apparent that the breakdown of amygdalin and its subsequent detoxification was very rapid.

If it were to be administered over a longer period of time, this could be overcome. In addition, the amygdalin must pass through many biological membranes in order to reach its site of action. This can be accomplished by combining the amygdalin with Dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO-laboratory grade).

Finally, as vitamin C is known to slow the growth of tumors, it is added to allow the amygdalin and the rest of the metabolic therapy more time to work.

The amygdalin should be added just prior to injection to insure maximum potency. This complete infusion is administered intravenously over a 2 to 3 hour period.

More rapid administration can result in a localized burning sensation due to the large amounts of vitamin C. This infusion is administered daily over the first 21 days of metabolic therapy.

In some instances where the slow drip infusion is not practical, intravenous administration of amygdalin can be used. This method provides the same high concentration in the blood as the slow drip infusion. Three vials (3 grams each) are administered daily in a slow intravenous push, usually in the brachial vein just proximate to the elbow. Preferably this administration should be between meals. The intravenous administration should be daily for 21 days.

Oral Ingestion is the most convenient and most frequently used method of amygdalin administration. The patients leaving the clinic are placed on oral amygdalin. Also, because of the difficulty for some patients in going to the physician's daily, many doctors prefer this method.

Normally for treamtment the tablet size is 500 milligrams (mg). Two of these tablets should be given 3 times a day. If patients have difficulty swallowing, the tablets may be broken up and added to soft food. The patient should take 1 tablet six times a day.

The preventive tablet size is 100mg. One or two tablets should be taken daily. This data is provided for informational purposes only by Cyto Pharma of Mexico. This company has been in the market since 1971 and are well known worldwide. They are the leader in the field of the amygdalin process and their research staff is constantly working to upgrade their products.

This is one way of an alternative cancer treatment protocol that is used by a number of naturopaths. What the Asbestos Companies Knew About Mesothelioma

asbestos mesothelioma

by: Robert Linebaugh

The asbestos industry caused a great amount of pain to many families by ignoring the startling evidence that asbestos exposure is harmful and often deadly. All of the suffering could have been avoided because the asbestos companies knew a lot more than they informed the public about. The companies considered the protection of the industry more important than the lives of their workers.

Back in the 1920s, a large variety of medical articles showed that there was scarring on the lungs of asbestos factory workers. This evidence was revealed during autopsies of those workers. Asbestos companies had full knowledge of these articles, but chose to ignore the facts presented because the public reaction to such information would kill the asbestos industry. Further studies in the 1930s revealed that asbestos miners and factory workers were indeed dying of lung disease and cancer. There was enough evidence to support an undeniable correlation between asbestos exposure and the development of mesothelioma. Sadly, the companies decided to suppress this overwhelming evidence and in a series of letters between asbestos companies. In these same letters, executives revealed how far the companies were willing to go in order to protect their own interests. These letters that were circulated in the 1930s are called the “Sumner Simpson Papers.” In these letters, certain asbestos company executives made statements such as “the less said about asbestos, the better off we are.” Owens Illinois and Owens Corning Fiberglas conducted studies in the 1940s, attempting to prove that asbestos exposure was harmless, and save the asbestos industry. The studies revealed the exact opposite. They showed that exposure to asbestos was indeed quite harmful and even deadly. In light of the studies, the companies attempted to force scientists to change their conclusions.

Asbestos companies had full knowledge of the potential harm that could be caused by exposure to asbestos. Scientists and studies confirmed that there was a direct relationship between asbestos exposure and early death. Asbestos companies first tried to cover up the knowledge and silence scientists who conducted studies showing the harmful effects of asbestos exposure. Once the information about asbestos came to the public, these same companies attempted to deny having knowledge that people simply working around asbestos-containing products would suffer. The companies denied knowledge in order to avoid lawsuits. The simple fact is that asbestos-containing products cause serious injury and often lead to premature death. For this reason, mesothelioma lawsuits are quite valid and are in no way frivolous. Lung disease, lung cancer, and mesothelioma all stem from asbestos exposure. Many lives could have been saved if the asbestos companies were willing to release the information that they had access to.

Dealing with Chemotherapy

Chemotherapy is a powerful treatment affecting the whole body, so healthy cells can also be damaged. This damage to healthy cells causes side effects. Chemotherapy also can ease the symptoms of cancer (palliative chemotherapy), helping some patients have a better quality of life. Chemotherapy often induces anemia that then exacerbates hypoxia in the tumor. The best way of evaluating blood oxygen-carrying capacity is to measure hematocrit and hemoglobin levels.

Chemotherapy is given in an outpatient setting, either orally or intravenously and usually in cycles. Chemotherapy may be used alone for some types of cancer or in combination with other treatments such as radiation or surgery. Often, a combination of chemotherapy drugs is used to fight a specific cancer. Chemotherapy can affect the white blood cell production in the bones which can make a person at risk for acquiring an infection. This lowered resistance to infection can arise as early as one week after treatment and it can continue up to two weeks after a chemotherapy treatment.

Chemotherapy treatments are often given in cycles; a treatment for a period of time, followed by a recovery period, then another treatment. Chemotherapy may be given in a variety of settings including your home, a hospital outpatient facility, a physician's office or clinic, or in a hospital. Chemotherapy may cause sores in the mouth, gums, and throat or cause gum tissues to become irritated and bleed. The doctor may prescribe a mouth rinse or other products to reduce pain, dryness, and irritation. Chemotherapy, therefore, is usually not effective for early adenocarcinoma of the prostate. Chemotherapuetic drugs are both toxic and systemic.

Chemotherapy is effective because the drugs used effect some phase of the cell life cycle. Each cell goes through a four phase cycle in order to replicate itself. Chemotherapy, like all treatments, is a matter of choice and is something you should consider carefully. You should feel confident that chemotherapy is the best treatment option at the given time and that your doctor is doing everything possible to keep you informed and comfortable. Chemotherapy drugs can then be infused directly into the abdominal cavity. Ports may also be placed under the skin of the abdominal wall and the catheter tunneled between the skin and muscle into the peritoneum.

Chemotherapy is often used as an adjuvant (supplemental) therapy in addition to other treatments, such as surgery or radiation therapy , which are designed to achieve local (breast/chest) control of the cancer. Normally, chemotherapy is administered through a semi permanent catheter (a flexible tube) implanted into a large vein, or by a smaller, temporary, intravenous catheter placed into the smaller veins in the arm or hand. Chemotherapy is a term used by doctors to refer to drugs that can kill cancer cells. Chemotherapy drugs can be given in a variety of ways, including intravenously by injection, intravenously with a pump, or even in pill form taken by mouth. Chemotherapy is not a miracle drug, especially where mesothelioma is concerned, so it's necessary to be patient when dealing with the treatment. Most patients receiving chemotherapy for the first time will be especially concerned about side effects.

ASBESTOS REMOVAL

Acoustic Asbestos Ceiling Removal

asbestos removal protection

So you have an acoustic asbestos ceiling, but you don't want it anymore because: 1) it collects cobwebs and dust that are difficult to remove; and 2) it discolors with age. You want to remove it. What can you do?

The solution is simple - remove the entire asbestos ceiling. An acoustic asbestos ceiling removal should do the trick.

However, before you jump at the first opportunity to remove that hideous-looking ceiling, note that some older ceilings of houses dating back to circa 1950 and every year before 1970 may contain asbestos, a kind of mineral that has been identified as a contaminant causing cancer and various other lung disorders.

It is literally impossible to try to determine if your ceiling has asbestos just by looking at it. In order to find out if your ceiling indeed contains asbestos, it is important to first perform an asbestos check before deciding on an acoustic asbestos ceiling removal. And even if the asbestos test comes out negative, it never hurts to add extra precaution in acoustic asbestos ceiling removal:

* Wear a respirator. Asbestos is very easily airborne and inhaling the fibers of this mineral could cause it to enter the lungs, causing damage and eventually cancer. * Wear eye protection. Although asbestos diseases are usually caused by inhaling, it is doubtless that the mere exposure (of skin, of eyes) to asbestos fibers can cause some unpleasant effects. Asbestos warts are one example of asbestos-related disease caused by exposure of the skin to the mineral. * Inform everyone in the house that you'll be doing an acoustic asbestos ceiling removal. This is so that they can keep their distance and minimize the risk of exposure to members of your family.

After taking the appropriate safety procedures in acoustic asbestos ceiling removal, it is now time for you to consider the steps of the actual removal process.

How to Remove

An acoustic asbestos ceiling removal is a delicate process. That is why it is usually left to the devices of licensed contractors to properly and safely remove asbestos containing materials from the ceiling. Still, for a successful acoustic asbestos ceiling removal, this involves wetting the ceiling's surface.

You might ask why you have to wet the ceiling first. The reason for this is so that any asbestos fibers contained in the ceiling material do not become airborne and cause a hazard. You cannot see asbestos fibers; they are 1,200 times smaller than human hair, so you won't really know if the fibers are airborne or not. But as a health precaution, wet the ceiling surface before attempting any acoustic asbestos ceiling removal.

Of course, since you will be wetting the surface, your first step therefore is to protect your floors and furniture. Clear the room of furniture and cover the floors and everything else with plastic.

Charitable Bodies Fighting Against Mesothelioma

 By: John Porter

Isn’t it the most pathetic situation when someone knows death can strike any moment? For the Mesothelioma cancer patients the gap between life and death is very little. The only hope is to resist through treatments for the time being.

Parallel to the Government initiative, many charitable and voluntary organizations have started working on researches related to Mesothelioma and its curing possibilities. It is indeed a good sign that all over the world more and more people are becoming conscious about this matter and trying to get involved in the rescue mechanism from this deadly and yet incurable disease.

Different Mesothelioma Foundations have taken the challenge to research and find out a definite cure for this cancer and doctors, biologists and pharmaceutical organizations have joined hands in support to this charitable mission. It’s really a grand mission and should be applauded by all sectors of the society. In the civilized society why should such a disease sprout where a mineral becomes the cause of fatality. Is there no way of bringing an end to this situation?

Mesothelioma Research Foundation of America (MESORFA)

MESORFA is working to its level best in the American continent to uproot the problem of Mesothelioma as soon as possible. The prominent oath taken by this Foundation states that they are supporting and funding to all such research works that can find remedy and cure for Mesothelioma at the earliest not causing another case of fatality.

How is MESORFA really instigating its charitable mission to help out the real victims of Mesothelioma? Let’s take a quick look.

Mesothelioma Laboratory at USC and Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center in Los Angeles are the two main centers conducting research work as well as giving treatment to the patients of Mesothelioma. The Mesothelioma Research Foundation of America (MESORFA) is funding these Research centers.

Veglin, the drug discovered

Already the Mesothelioma Laboratory at USC has made a successful endeavor. A particular drug has been formulated through the research that has proved effective on the Mesothelioma cancer patient. Veglin is the name of the drug and it is being used in a prescribed dose to remove the tumors through a shrinking process and this in turn is helping the fluid gathered in the lungs to reduce and come out. The healing rate is quite fast. The Lab is looking forward to discover an ultimate curing medicine for Mesothelioma. Had this charitable organization not stretched out its helping hands it would have never been so easy for such researches to take place.

MESOTHELIOMA SYMPTOMS

Mesothelioma symptoms And Other Cancer Symptoms

By: suegold

mesothelioma

The term “Mesothelioma” in medical terms is defined as form of cancer that proliferates at a very fast rate after it has been diagnosed, which affects the mesothelial cells in the body. After detailed study of this disease by several scientists all over the world, it has been concluded that in most of the cases the reason is the direct contact with loose asbestos particles.

This disease is generally known to be derived from an abnormality that arises from inhaling the loose asbestos particles suspended in the air for a very long time. The chances of the patients, diagnosed of mesothelioma, have very bleak chances of survival which is not more than one or two years and if it has been detected long back and rigorous medication has been started on the patient then the patient is likely to live for about five years.

There are three types of mesothelioma but the symptoms of the diseases depend on their kinds. The symptoms vary from one-another but the general symptoms that are found in patients suffering from different types of mesothelioma are loss, chest pain, loss of appetite, short breath , plain cough and cough with blood. Diagnosing mesothelioma in its initial stages is not possible because symptoms surface very late and that, these symptoms are no special signs indicating the particular disease but are common for other diseases too.
Generally the symptoms of mesothelioma resemble to that to any other normal lung diseases. Most of the symptoms arise in the lungs, where the mesothelial cells covering the lungs and the cavity between them are affected due to prolonged inhalation of asbestos fibers. Consulting with the physician is very necessary from time to time and necessary test must be conducted to detect the disease.
The main symptom of mesothelioma is a constant pain in the chest which is followed by short breaths and difficult breathing because of accumulation of fluid in the chest, which makes breathing all the more difficult. Some of the other symptoms of the disease include abnormalities in the lungs, which can be diagnosed under proper supervision of the doctor with a chest CT-scan.

Basically, the disease of mesothelioma advances in four stages. In the first stage, begins the formation of the tumor in the area of lining of the lung and doesn’t exceed from one side of the lung. And then in the second stage the tumor extends to other organs in the chest cavity, such as heart. Then in the third stage its extents to the other abdominal organs affecting all the other organs too.
Finally in the fourth and the last stage the tumor extends to all parts of the body and affects all the parts adversely. These are some of the symptoms of the disease of mesothelioma, by which the disease can be tracked in the initial stages of its occurrence.

Some Other Common Cancer Symptoms

In an age where some of the things we simply have a habit of doing the wrong way can seem to cause cancer in people, and even though there are things that a person can do to prevent these symptoms, some of these things are only containable and curable through the right means of research and treatment. It can be hectic keeping up with all of the modern cures and treatments for cancerous growth, and if you have any of the following symptoms, you are advised to get in contact with your physician of choice as soon as is available to you.

Some telltale signs of cancer include but aren’t limited to a lump or thickening in the breast or testicle, changes found in a wart or mole, a skin sore or persistent sore throat that doesn’t seem to heal properly, changes in bowel or bladder habits, a persistent cough or even coughing up blood, constant indigestion or trouble swallowing, unusual bleeding or vaginal discharge, and chronic fatigue. However, these symptoms are the most common, and can be signs of other ailments as well but can’t be overlooked either.

Other cancers have more specific symptoms include blood in the urine or pain upon urination with bladder cancer, fractures in bones and bumps or bruises that persist with bone cancer, changes in vision along with fits and convulsions with brain cancer, enlarged lymph nodes under the arm in the case of breast cancer, rectal bleeding and abdominal cramps with colorectal cancer, dull ache or pain in the back or side with kidney cancer, enlarged lymph nodes in neck and persistent cough for months with lung cancer, and lumps or ulcerations in mouth or around the lips with oral cancer.

There are others as well that need to be included with those above like; abnormal vaginal bleeding and digestive discomfort with ovarian cancer, yellowing of the skin and upper abdominal pain with pancreatic cancer, dull ache in the pelvis or back and the bladder retaining urine with prostate cancer, discomfort or pain in the abdomen along with vomiting blood or blood in the stool with stomach cancer, and a painful urination or pain during intercourse with uterine cancer. This is not a comprehensive list of cancers or symptoms, but if any of these symptoms appear to be similar to your own, then contact your physician immediately.

WHAT IS ASBESTOS

Asbestos and Its Dangers

by Vincent Green

asbestos fibers

Asbestos is the name given to naturally occurring fibrous minerals that are contained within rock and mined in many countries. Asbestos has a number of valuable properties including physical strength, resistance to chemicals, non-combustibility and good thermal and electrical insulation. It is due to these properties that asbestos has been widely used in industry for a range of applications.

However, when asbestos is disturbed or damaged, the fibres can be released into the air and inhaled, which creates a risk to human health. It is estimated that Asbestos Containing Materials (ACM) may be present in up to half a million premises in the UK and could represent a health risk if the materials are not properly identified and managed. The Control of Asbestos Regulations 2006 (CAR) were introduced in order to address the risks involved.

From studies of people who were exposed to asbestos in factories and shipyards, we know that breathing high levels of asbestos fibers can lead to an increased risk of mesothelioma, a cancer of the lining of the chest , and asbestosis, in which the lungs become scarred with fibrous tissue.

The risk of lung cancer and mesothelioma increases with the number of fibers inhaled. The risk of lung cancer from inhaling asbestos fibers is also greater if you smoke. People who get asbestosis have usually been exposed to high levels of asbestos for a long time. The symptoms of these diseases do not usually appear until about 20 to 30 years after the first exposure to asbestos.

Asbestos Facts

There are three main types of asbestos still found in premises. These are commonly called blue asbestos (crocidolite), brown asbestos (amosite)and white asbestos (chrysotile). All types of asbestos are dangerous, but blue asbestos and brown asbestos are most hazardous. It is impossible to identify them just by their colour.

Although it is now illegal to use asbestos in the construction or refurbishment of any premises, many thousands of tonnes of it were used in the past and much of it is still in place. As long as it is in good condition and is not being or going to be disturbed or damaged there is no risk. But if it is disturbed or damaged, it can become a danger to health, because asbestos fibres are released into the air and people can breathe them in.

Breathing in air containing asbestos fibres can lead to asbestos-related diseases, mainly cancers of the lungs and chest lining. Asbestos is a risk only if asbestos fibres are released into the air and breathed in. Over 4 years ago, Asbestos-related diseases killed up to 3000 people a year in Great Britain, and this number is expected to continue rising for the next 10 years. There is no cure for asbsestos-related diseases. There is usually a long delay between first exposure to asbestos and the onset of disease. This can vary from 15 - 60 years. Only by preventing or minimizing these exposures now will asbestos-related disease eventually be wiped out.

Asbestos Statistics

Asbestos-related diseases kill up to 3000 people a year in the UK.

The delay between first exposure to asbestos and the onset of disease can vary from 15 - 60 years.

Asbestos is the only known cause of Mesothelioma.

Asbestos is a combination of several minerals held together by silky strands of fibers.

These fireproof fibers of Asbestos do not burn, and do not conduct heat or electricity.

Asbestos was used widely in all types of construction products up to the mid-1970s.

Asbestos is the most serious occupational health issue ever experienced in the UK .

Asbestos statistics indicate that the incidence of asbestos deaths in the UK may rise until it reaches a peak in the year 2020.

Asbestos Regulations

The Control of Asbestos at Work Regulations introduced by the government, require an explicit duty to manage asbestos in non-domestic premises. This important legislation was passed to tackle the biggest occupational health killer in the UK, which is unfortunately asbestos-related disease.

Employers, building owners, landlords and tenants should be considering the implications of not complying to these regulations, identifying the presence of any asbestos-containing materials within their premises and formalizing a strategy for managing the risk.

The Duty to Manage

If you own, occupy, manage or have responsibilities for non-domestic premises, which may contain asbestos, you will either have a legal duty to manage the risk from this material or a duty to co-operate with whoever manages that risk.

The person responsible for a building (The Duty Holder) is required to manage the risk from asbestos by:

Taking reasonable steps to find asbestos on their premises and assess the condition of these materials.

Presuming that materials do contain asbestos unless there is strong evidence that they do not.

Preparing a record of the location and condition of asbestos, or presumed asbestos, materials and assess the risks from them.

Preparing and implementing a plan to manage those risks.

Providing information on the location and condition of the materials to anyone who is liable to disturb them.

Who will be the Duty Holder?

All those who have responsibility for the maintenance and/or repair of non-domestic premises have duties under this regulation. The extent of the legal duty is determined by the terms of the tenancy agreement or contract that applies.

Depending on the contract or tenancy the Duty Holder could be the landlord or tenant or even a facilities manager. The regulation also includes a duty to co-operate, which applies widely. This will, for example, require a landlord to pass information on asbestos to a new tenant. Also any building surveyor or architect who have plans which show information on the whereabouts of asbestos would be expected to make these available to the Duty Holder at a reasonable cost.

Liability and Penalties

The most common liability that a company faces in this context is a claim in negligence made by an employee or contractor suffering from an asbestos related illness. Although the manufacture and supply of asbestos products is now prohibited in the UK, workers in the building and maintenance trade remain at risk of avoidable exposure to asbestos containing materials during the course of their work. The cost of failure to comply with asbestos regulations can be high and not just in human terms. Developers, architects and contractors, as well as property owners and managers, face compensation bills, prosecution and adverse publicity. It can also affect the value of a building.

The Health and Safety Executive is responsible for the enforcement of the CAW Regulations in terms of their usual powers and procedures. The maximum penalties are an unlimited fine and/or up to two years' imprisonment. As with most other health and safety law offences, directors and officers of companies may be held liable for breaches if committed with their consent, connivance or neglect.

ASBESTOS LAWYERS

Asbestos Lawyers Saviors for Mesothelioma Patients

By: Ken Needles

asbestos-lawyers-time

Asbestos lawyers are the firms or individual who take up the case of a person suffering from Mesothelioma cancer and file a case against the company to obtain the compensation from the company. It is a difficult task as the disease can be detected only 20 to 50 years after the exposure so it becomes very difficult to prove that the person had really got the exposure from a particular company for it is possible that after leaving the company the same person may have worked somewhere else where he had been exposed to asbestos particles present in the air and might have contacted the disease.

Work of the Asbestos Lawyers

The lawyers help the patients with all the legal formalities that a person has to perform if he wants to file a compensation case. As soon as the disease is detected the patient should avail the services of the asbestos lawyer as there is a condition that the suit should be filed within a stipulated period otherwise it will not be accepted. The period starts from the day the disease is diagnosed. The Asbestos lawyer is like a savior as he helps the patient to get financial relief. After the disease is detected the patient has to face a lot of financial problem as he has to spend a huge amount of money for his treatment for which he may not have an insurance coverage so the compensation that he gets helps him financially as he can meet all his medical expenses.

How to Hire an Asbestos Lawyer?

The Asbestos lawyers are also helpful as they are able to provide information about the best doctors who can provide the best medical help. One thing has to be remembered that the person has to choose his lawyer or firm very carefully if he wants to get the best service. He should consult all the sources available to find out whether the asbestos lawyer is a dedicated lawyer who pursues only such type of cases or it is just a side business for him. The person should clearly talk about the fees as in such type of cases the lawyer gets a percentage from the compensation money as fees.

He should find out about the services rendered by the lawyer and also verify if any extra charges have to be paid besides the fees. The lawyer should be able to understand the health needs of the person and should be supportive while dealing with the case. He should be like a friend, philosopher and guide besides being dedicated, experienced and skilled. The patient should interact with his lawyer and see whether he will be helpful or not. He has to choose a person who can understand his problem and work accordingly to solve the problem of his client.

MESOTHELIOMA PATIENT

Mesothelioma: 5 Top Tips to Help Cope Easier

mesothelioma feelings
by: George Spence

Living with a diagnosis of Mesothelioma can be very emotionally difficult to deal with. Understandably, you may be feeling upset and confused as it is not uncommon for Mesothelioma to be diagnosed at an advanced stage. Here are five tips to help you or anyone else cope with Mesothelioma:

1: Coping with your feelings.

Everyone has a different reaction when they learn that they have Mesothelioma. A wide range of feelings and emotions such as confusion, upset , worried, depression, shock, fear, denial, anger, negativity, etc. And it is not uncommon for people to feel relieved on learning they have Mesothelioma as they feel it is better to know than not know at all.

Just because you are having different feelings to others (or to the ones listed above) does not mean that you are not coping. There is no text book way to cope with Mesothelioma. The feelings you experience are naturally right for you so do not compare your feelings with anyone else.

2: Finding others to talk to.

Your family and friends may find it hard to talk with each other about Mesothelioma. This is not unusual as they may be scared of frightening you or make it more difficult to talk about in the future. Most Mesothelioma patients feel that a problem shared is a problem halved. In some cases, patients feel it is best just to be listened to and know that someone is there if a ‘good pair of listening ears’ is needed. Get the subject out in the open.

3: How to tell children.

It is never easy to tell children about Mesothelioma, even more difficult if they are small. Most patients will have small children, young relatives or the children of friends in their lives.

If the child you need to speak with is very small, start off by explaining that the person in question is very poorly. If the child is a little older, it is a good idea to explain Mesothelioma cancer as good cells and bad cells in the body. It is also a good idea if you know a little about Mesothelioma or cancer but overall, try to keep it simple.

You will also need to listen to the questions of the child and answer them the best you can without trying to upset them too much. Starting off with small bits of information and building up to the bigger picture as time goes on is a good way to go.

But don’t keep any secrets. Children are good at telling when something is not right and it may be harder for them to cope with uncertainty that it would be coping with the truth.

As adults, it can be natural to try and protect children from the truth but children can pick up on unusual comings and goings and will feel left out. Keep them informed, even if it is with just little snippets of information..

If possible, try to have a word with the child's school teacher to let them know that someone close to them is ill. Hopefully, the teacher will keep an eye on the child in case of any changes in the child's behaviour.

4. What can you do?

A feeling of helplessness is not unusual when someone is first told that they have Mesothelioma. Try and learn to understand Mesothelioma as this will help you and your family to take action and know what to expect. It is best to talk to a professional such as your doctor if you need more information as they will be able to advise you on your specific case which is always better than getting general information about Mesothelioma from a book or the internet. Be sure to take a list of questions to save time for you and your doctor.

It may be a good idea to see if there are any local support groups you can join. Finding people going through a similar experience as yourself can help you cope. Your doctor or hospital will be able to let you know if there are any support groups near to you.

As you are having treatment, you will find that you may not be able to do as much as you would like on a day to day basis. Once you start to feel a little better, try and do some simple tasks and do a little more each day. This will help with confidence but always remember not to over do things.

A lot of patients try to fight Mesothelioma by planning a healthy diet, learning relaxation techniques and taking regular exercise. You don’t have to do this, only if you would like to try it. The last thing you need are more dramatic changes in your life if you’re not ready for them. But if you do decide to give exercise a go, start slowly and set realistic targets. You will have good days and bad days so always plan your activity on how you feel on the day.

5: Who else can help?

More support can come from your GP if needed and hospitals can give advice and support through cancer nurses and specially trained staff will advise you on any worries you may have.

For financial help, check any insurance policies you have to see if you are covered. It is also advisable to seek financial help from your local welfare office if needed.

Sometimes it is nice to talk with someone who has nothing to do with Mesothelioma. You may want to try counseling or if you’re religious, speaking with a local minister or anyone else involved in your faith.

Tips to Find a Mesothelioma Lawyer

By: Roberta Groche

Choosing a mesothelioma lawyer to represent you in your lawsuit is something which has to be done with utmost care. The success of the case filed depends primarily on the lawyer and the patient's situation. Hence you should have complete satisfaction regarding the lawyer before hiring him. You should feel confident that he has the experience and knowledge to represent you very well. In fact, your attorney should be your trusted partner who understands your health needs and is always supportive, thoughtful and compassionate.

You should have an idea about the track record of the firm in handling mesothelioma cases, the kind of verdicts obtained, whether in the case of an appeal they would dedicate ample time and efforts needed etc. Even if you prefer an out of court settlement, a strong trial record will come to the aid of the firm to achieve a good compensation. Establishing the link between one's illness and asbestos exposure is a difficult and time consuming job.

A diagnosis of mesothelioma can be devastating for the victim and the family. In such cases the victim has every right to ask why he was not forewarned of the dangers of asbestos. Even a grieving family member or the executor of the will of a person who has died from the disease is eligible to file a claim. The initial shock of asbestos related illness would be so great that legal details will be the last thing that someone wants to face. But it should also be remembered that taking advantage of the legal rights can bring relief from financial crisis as well as pay off the huge medical bills.

Mainly three types of mesothelioma are there - Pleural mesothelioma affecting the coverings of the lungs, Pericardial mesothelioma, destroying the covering of the heart and Peritoneal mesothelioma, ruining the covering of the abdominal organs. Lawyers who specialize in fighting the case for the victims of each form of cancer are available now. It is good to contact the concerned lawyer for a speedy compensation. The speed of the case also depends on the state you were living and working when you came into asbestos or related products. Your age, earning capacity and the number of identifiable defendants that still exist will determine the value of the case.

The lawyers can act as knowledgeable guides regarding doctors and other treatment options available. It should also be remembered that there is time restriction for filing the suite. It can vary from state to state. But the time starts from the day of diagnosis. The caring, friendly attention of the experienced lawyer can go along way to cope up with the disease and lessen the damage it can cause to the financial security of the family. Hence you must make sure to contact the right law firm which has experience, track record and reputation in the legal community.

ORANGE MESOTHELIOMA

Finding the Right Mesothelioma Attorney

by BARRY DAVIS

It is a long and difficult path to fight a disease no matter what type it may be. Mesothelioma is no different. It becomes even more difficult and draining to try and find a good mesothelioma attorney who can help you.

So what is mesothelioma? Mesothelioma is a rare type of cancer. It is caused by a long direct exposure to asbestos and it affects the sac lining in the chest. Most people who have mesothelioma were exposed to asbestos without knowing it. In the years when asbestos contact was common, many people did not know the risks and dangers involved, so employees of companies were put at risk without any warning or protection. This article will try and help those in need and make the decision process for finding a good mesothelioma attorney a little easier.

The first thing you should do is find out all you can about mesothelioma. While it is the attorneys job to have knowledge about the disease, having a complete understanding of it yourself will allow you to make a better decision when deciding which attorney to use. You will be able to judge their knowledge better. You want to get an attorney who really understands the disease, its causes, and most certainly it effects. If you go with a mesothelioma attorney who does not have an extensive knowledge, then you are putting your entire case in the hands of someone who you hope will do their research. This is a dangerous game to play when it will decide how much money comes out of your pocket for legal fees.

You have the resources, so use them. Looking up information in a phone book can narrow you search to a local attorney. Using the internet will provide a plethora of mesothelioma attorneys. You want to search for "mesothelioma attorney" to really narrow down the search for one. Then you can do some more research on their firm's name or the lawyer's name. You want to have numerous attorneys at your fingertips. The more choices, the better. This way you can contact them all, ask as many questions as you possibly can, and get a good feel for who seems more fit to handle your case.

Before making any decision, make sure you understand the terms. If you are going to sign anything, then make sure you read the fine print. The last thing you want to do is end up paying way more than you originally thought, especially if you lose the case. There are many mesothelioma attorneys out there who actually will not ask for money unless the case is won. In these cases they usually ask for a percentage of the amount you receive for winning the case. Know and understand the terms each attorney is asking for.

Ask your friends and co-workers if they know any good attorneys. Each one is worth checking out. Also, the people you know or are close to you will want to help you, so they will not recommend someone who is not top notch. In general, people like to help others, so take advantage of the situation.

The amount you receive in a case is certainly not a fixed amount. Depending on the circumstances, the amount can certainly vary. However, in past cases, some amounts granted have been quite large. Find a mesothelioma attorney as quick as possible. There is a one to two year limitation on when you can file a lawsuit from the date mesothelioma was diagnosed. Also, these procedures for filling a lawsuit can take quite some time, so it is best to find an attorney as soon as you possibly can.

What You Should Know About Mesothelioma

It is important to stress that once you start experiencing the symptoms of pericardial mesothelioma (shortness of breath, chest pains, coughing up blood, and palpitations) you should immediately seek specialized help.

The traditional treatments for mesothelioma include surgery if the tumor has spread out and is beyond radiation-curable radiation therapy (external and internal radiation), and chemotherapy, which includes using a pill or needle to insert anti-carcinogen drugs into the body. This treatment is generally used along with other treatments to strengthen the mesothelioma patient's immune system.

Mesothelioma is a rare type of carcinoma of the membrane that lines numerous cavities of the body, including the lungs, abdomen and heart, and has been associated with exposure to asbestos dust. When exposed to asbestos, people can suffer from various diseases such as lung cancer, mesothelioma, asbestosis, pleural plaques, etc. So much so, that an entire breed of lawyer has been born that specializes in, you guessed it, mesothelioma cases.

Because asbestos is so strongly linked to mesothelioma, regulations have been created to set limits on the amount of exposure to asbestos a worker can have in a workplace. In the past 20 years mesothelioma cases have shot up. Some of the procedures commonly used for the diagnosis of the peritoneal mesothelioma include peritoneoscopy, thoracoscopy, and biopsy.

Since Mesothelioma is primarily a personal injury occurring from the work place, those injured should be able to take action against irresponsible businesses that exposed its employees to this cancer-causing material. Learning about the stage of mesothelioma is a critical factor that helps physicians to decide the treatment plan.

In treating Mesothelioma, the anti-cancer drugs are usually given to the patient through intravenous injection (within the vein). Three different types of mesothelioma cancer attack these three different regions. Epithelial mesothelioma is most common.

But at present, there are various Mesothelioma law firms which are established in many countries of the world especially in those places where there is high percentage of mesothelioma, a cancer which is the result of high exposure to asbestos. A great deal of research is afoot to discover better management procedures for pleural mesothelioma. Mesothelioma patients seek immense psychological and social support through such treatment forums.

Even short term asbestos exposure will cause mesothelioma generally; the probability of developing this form of cancer is directly related to the length of time you are exposed to asbestos. When fibres are inhaled they become lodged in the alveoli of the lungs and over a period of time these fibres make tissue and cells abnormal and cause mesothelioma cancer. An asbestos attorney can be consulted for further litigation if the person is adversely affected by mesothelioma.

Mesothelioma is a serious malignant tumor that affects the torso of the human body. The mesothelioma prognosis is determined through physical examination and the results of a number of medical tests designed to evaluate the rare asbestos cancer. This exam will test a tissue sample for the presence of malignant and/or pleural mesothelioma.

Usually, a biopsy of the tumor is required to confirm a diagnosis of mesothelioma, however, sometimes only an effusion sample is needed. Once a mesothelioma prognosis is finally determined, then treating this aggressive and rare cancer can begin. If sufficient fibers are inhaled, this can lead to another type lung cancer called mesothelioma.

Individuals with a history of extended asbestos exposure are at the highest risk for developing malignant mesothelioma.
